Putting your frame together

- Tools needed - razor or X-acto knife, masking tape or photo corners, your decommissioned passport.

Step 1 -Take decommissioned passport and find seam (towards center) - Use razor edge to cut thread holding pages in passport. Remove thread. - If pages are still attached take razor edge and cut along inside edge of page where thread was removed.(it’s ok if it is not completely straight).

Step 2 -Once all pages are removed, situate the pages on flat surface how you will want them situated in frame. Keeping in mind which side of page you will want displayed in front and which in back. Also which will be displayed on top/middle and bottom of frame. Also where the frame will be hanging (this will make sense once we are done and ready to hang). If frame is hinged take into account which way the frame will swing once mounted to wall.

Step 3 - Take 1 of 2 included mat boards and lay on flat surface color side down. Take pages you have chosen and place them on corresponding openings. There should be a small overlap of page and board.

Step 4 - Photo corners can be used to mount pages to mat board for a cleaner look. Masking tape is also sufficient and a bit cheaper. If using photo corners, follow instructions on box to mount pages to board. Here we will be using tape to adhere pages to mat board. - For tape use, tear off piece appx 1” long and tear this piece down the middle making two thinner strips. Take one piece and place along the very outside edge of page securing it to the board. Keep in mind tape may be visible once other board goes on. So every now and then take the second mat board and place it on top of pages to see if tape needs adjusting so that it is not visible. -Follow these instructions until all pages are adhered to board. (this may look a bit messy at this point, but none of this will be visible)

Step 5 - Once you are happy and sure your pages are secure to the board, take second mat board and place it over the first board color side up. If any tape is visible (as seen above) this is where you can adjust or move tape around so that it is not visible once the second board goes on. Once second board goes on it should look clean and only pages should be visible.

Step 6 - Take frame and included glass and place on clean flat surface. Remove protective film from glass. -With frame face down, push tabs on back of frame can be bent with small amount of pressure with finger. Ensure tabs are all bent upward towards sky(see above). -Take glass and place inside rabbet of frame, ensuring it is not sitting on top of any push tabs. Glass should lay flat inside of rabbet. There should still be a small amount of space between glass and wood allowing for movement

Step 7 - Take mat board with pages and place on top of glass, color side down. Again keep in mind which side will be top and which bottom and If hinged which way frame will swing. - Take second board and place on top of first board, ensuring no tape is visible and there are no gaps between paper and board. -If second piece of glass was ordered, remove film and place in frame on top of second mat board.

Step 8 - Once all pieces are placed in frame. Use finger and firmly press all push tabs back down until they are holding glass/board firmly in place, this should limit any excessive movement inside frame. – Mounting to wall- These frames are made with the intent that each page is viewable from both sides, which is why we have included hinges with your kit. You may choose to display your frame anyway you see fit we encourage some creativity when displaying your project!(send pics!) If mounting frame with hinges, mount two hinges on back of frame appx. 4” from each end. Ensure hinge is installed so that when mounted on wall, only outside edge of hinge is visible when looking straight on. Several large screws included should be used to mount frame to wall. For larger frames it is important to find and mount frames to studs in your wall, do not attempt to mount to drywall only . Frame should lay flat on wall and swing outward to perpendicular position on wall if mounted correctly. If unhinged and frame will be hanging traditionally please use wall anchors if mounting to drywall. Any questions can be directed to us in the contact session! Please Enjoy and thank you for sharing your project!
